Graphic Equalizer with 5-Band Capability

The circuit is based around Monolithic Linear SANYO integrated circuit LA3600 to create a low noise and completely high quality 5-band graphic equalizer which can be used for any portable tape recorders, component stereos, radio cassette recorders, car stereos, etc.

Although the circuit was built with high quality, the construction was very easy. A single channel can be formed easily by the 5-band equalizer since it employs the use of a single on-chip amplifier. The one channel can be obtained by connecting the capacitors and variable resistors externally for maintaining and fixing the resonance frequency.

The number of bands can be increased by connecting two LA3600 IC in series which makes the multiband of around 6 to 10 bands available. The increase is also highly stable with a capacitive load. It is better not to exceed the maximum voltage supply Vcc of around 20V max since the operating voltage is in the range of 5V to 15V.

During operation, when power is applied with the pin-to-pin spaces shorted, it will cause the deterioration or breakdown of the IC. This can be avoided by ensuring the pin-to-pin spaces are not shorted when soldering/mounting components.
