A diode can fail in one of four ways. It can become open, shorted, leaky and intermittent. Just by using an analog meter, it can measure almost all of the symptoms except the intermittent failure. If you suspect the diode have intermittent problem, just direct replace it since diode replacement is quite easy to get and cheap too.
